Diabetes - It's All About the Weight, Baby!

It was my second visit to my new doctor in Pueblo, Colorado back about 8-9 years ago. I didn't know him from Adam. I had taken a battery of blood tests called a lipid profile on my first visit. Let me digress a little.

I shopped around and picked him as my Doc because I had recently been diagnosed with the big 'D' (Diabetes for those of you who live in Pueblo) and my other doc knew zip about it. This new doc had a son with type 1.

We chit chatted a bit on this second visit then he got down to business. Let's see Jack, you have type 2 diabetes partially caused by being overweight. You have high blood pressure caused by being overweight. You have sleep apnea caused by being overweight. You have high cholesterol and high triglycerides caused by poor eating habits which cause you to be overweight. "Are you staring to see a pattern here?" he asked. DUH!!

That was nearly nine years ago but the words ring true today. 25 pounds and one angioplasty later I still struggle with weight. At age 63, my metabolism is not slow it has gone in reverse. It is very difficult to lose weight for me, maybe impossible. I even tried the duct tape diet.

I know it is easy-just burn more calories than you take in. Yeah RIGHT!

Well now there is more than anecdotal evidence between being overweight and diabetes, between being overweight and sleep apnea. Study after study confirms the relationship.

Sleep apnea is an interruption of sleep caused by an obstruction in the airways. Five such interruptions in an hour constitute a clinical diagnosis of sleep apnea. My last sleep study revealed an average of 19 per hour-that's one every three minutes. No wonder you feel so c.... when you have it.

Sleep apnea is potentially life threatening. We all know how devastating and life threatening the big 'D' is. So what are you waiting for?

The good news is you can avoid type 2 diabetes completely - or at least control it adequately. This is quite possible in many cases using diet, exercise, other lifestyle improvements, and medication, if necessary. Get control early, if you have it, and enjoy your life.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE WEIGHT BABY!

Methods to Manage Diabetes

Diabetes is a very serious condition. However, with the right advice it can be managed very effectively. In this article I discuss a number of ways you can effectively manage diabetes.

First, lets look at diet. If you go and see a qualified dietician they can help create a diabetes meal plan for you which will keep your blood sugar (glucose) levels even. This new diet is likely to be different to your previous one and you need to take the following into consideration:

- You will need to avoid refined sugars because they make your glucose levels spike. However, there are plenty of no sugar food varieties available to you.

- You will have to start eating more often during the day to keep your blood sugar levels even.

- You will need to keep an eye on your intake of triglycerides and fats. This can be achieved through a low fat eating plan.

- You will need to increase your intake of complex carbohydrates (wheat, barley and rice) because they are processed at a slower rate than simple carbohydrates (e.g. refined sugars).

- You will need to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to keep your glucose levels even.

- You will need to keep a check on the amount of alcohol you drink. If your diabetes is not fully under control you should avoid alcohol completely. If it is under control then; a diabetic man can safely consume 1-2 alcoholic beverages a day, a diabetic woman can consume 1 alcoholic beverage per day and a diabetic who is 65 or over can consume 1 alcoholic beverage per day.

Modifying your diet is a very effective way to keep your glucose levels even and control your diabetes. However, you may also which to try naturopathy (natural remedies to treat diabetes). If you decide to experiment with a naturopathic approach it is essential you consult your doctor first. If your doctor is OK with it try the following:

- Consume more Fish Oil, Borage Oil and Omega 3 Oil. Studies have shown that fatty acids can help you regulate the metabolism of your faulty fatty acids, reduce cardiovascular complications and help combat diabetes.

- Try hydrotherapy. Water both conducts and absorbs heat so it is a great way to reduce glucose levels.

- Try Massage and Reflexology. A proper massage helps you relax which in turn controls your diabetes.

Hopefully, this article has opened your eyes towards the ways you can manage your diabetes. Changing your diet is an excellent way to manage your condition and naturopathy offers some unique alternatives for you to consider. Whichever ways you choose to manage your diabetes, it is key that you consult a professional doctor and dietician before implementing any significant changes.

Some Symptoms Of Diabetes In Children And Early Detection Can Save You A Lot Of Problems

To determine the symptoms of diabetes in children, parents must check if the child has sugar in his or her urine and monitor if the child visits the restroom very frequently. Does the child drink plenty of water, start to lose weight, feel hungry or tired all the time and observe if there are signs of the child becoming irritable easily.

Diabetes, a rather problematic disease, needs to be treated as soon as possible. Therefore, you must be on guard and look out for any possible diabetes symptoms in your child. If your child happened to be drinking much more water than usual, do not put restrictions on him or her, unless you are positive it is not a symptom of the disease. Otherwise, the child may risk getting dehydration since one of the symptoms is frequent urination.

The other symptom associated with children with diabetes is lethargy.
A diabetic child will tend to get tired easily and often very early in play, and more often than not, this symptom is related to acute thirst and frequent urination.

In order not to over-react or read the child diabetes symptoms wrongly, running a blood test will be the best and safest solution.

Besides acute or frequent thirst, the other equally common child diabetes symptom is excessive hunger. This symptom is one which is difficult for mothers to accept as a warning sign in their children. But if children gets overly thirsty and hungry most of the time, it must not be taken lightly. You will also find that despite increased hunger, the child does not gain but lose weight instead.

All of the above diabetes symptoms in children have to be read accurately so that treatments will not delayed and since diabetes is a serious disease it must be arrested and treated the soonest possible.

Innovation and Organization Can Go Together in the Modern Corporation

Many folks in business think that innovation is stifled by organization and that simply is not so. Too much status quo and organization simply for the sake or organizing could slow innovation, but too much of anything is not good for anyone, anyway.

The other day, I was filling up some boxes of books from my personal library to donate and I noticed two books that caught my eye. I pulled them out of the pile and sat down for an hour with each and considered the implications of how these books should be read by both sides of the debate between structured organizations and loosely run innovative companies. Rather than one or the other, both these authors from their own perfective consider a balance between the two.

So, perhaps it is not either or, but a little of both, as necessary. So, let us discuss these two books briefly and consider the merging of minds in the modern organization to get the best results in innovation and profit:

"The Organized Executive - New Ways to Manage Time, Paper, and People" by Stephanie Winston - 1983. Many of the most innovative, best and/or brightest are also the most disorganized, but this does not mean they cannot organize or gain efficiencies in doing so, as there are ways that are carefully described in this book to do just that.

First, she suggests doing an organizing audit and reprogramming to fit your needs, this is necessary because you do not wish to change the way you do things that are currently working for you, more doing it better your way. The first order of business is the paperwork flow or mess, depending on how you see it, and the art of filing - today all this is done on computer, but the theory is the same.

Next, the book suggest ways to combat time wasting methods and the time wasters that create them. There are chapters on project management workflow, managing staff, working with secretaries and business tools of the trade.

"If it ain't broke - BREAK IT! - and other unconventional wisdom for a changing business world" by Rober K Kriegel and Louse Patler - 1991. This book sold 2 million copies and was highly touted in it's time. He talks about Sacred Cows, Innovation, and why failure is a good place to start - Why companies must continually change incrementally, sometimes drastically, rather than running redline and thinking they will get exponential gains each quarter.

He talks about why playing it safe is dangerous in a competitive world and why it is important to take risks and not chances. Additionally he suggests that you need to plan to change your plans, that is what planning, real planning is all about.

Now then can you begin to see how a happy medium is drawn and when and why organization is important to innovation and more importantly why innovation must be an integral part of your organization?

20 Ways To Make 100 Dollars Per Day Online - Ebook Review

The ebook is only $27 but it is 247 pages full of content. I bought lots of infoproducts, and normally it doesn't take a long time for me to know which ebook is good and which is not. "20 Ways To Make $100 Per Day Online" definitely belongs to the 'great ebooks' category.

I would say that this is really the product over delivered by the "authors" (more to come).

Inside the ebook, you can find 20 different ways to make $100 or more per day online. You can practically choose which way(s) you like and start putting some action on it. Some of the chapters covered in this ebook include "Software Creation", "Profitable Niche marketing", "Affiliate Marketing", "Writing Articles", "eBay Selling", "Online MLM" and many others.

And, these chapters were written by several successful internet marketers who detail their strategies and tactics to make money from the Internet. The last chapter about "Affiliate Marketing" is from Willie Crawford (the one who put this ebook together with other writers), and you can read from other authors such as Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian, Kenth Nasstrom, David Schwartz, Gary Knuckles and many more.

Another plus point for you to buy this ebook (besides great content) is the affiliate program offered to customers only. After making the purchase, you can join the "20 Ways To Make $100 Per Day Online" affiliate program and promote this ebook to others. It pays 100% on the front end and 80% on the backend, and that is two very huge commissions for you. With one sale, your investment on this ebook is already covered.

And, I think Willie does this so that not only can you make money using the strategies in this ebook, but also generate a potential $100 a day income with it too. It's very generous for Willie to do this. In case you're wondering if Willie is using a $7 script, I tell you it's not. So, you really have to be a customer to benefit from this affiliate program.

Small Business Books and the Best Advice for Winning Entrepreneurs

Many folks starting a new business are doing it for their very first time. Where can they get the real advice they need? Well there are many great places for information, such as your local Chamber of Commerce, SCORE Office or the Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs). There is help from the Government as well.

Still with all that knowledge where can you find the best business books for the real world, things like how to know when you have a good idea, how to plan for success and how on Earth do you market that product or service without breaking your bank? Well, it just so happens the other day, I was filling a couple of boxes of books from my personal business library to take to the 'Donation Station" and I stopped for an hour to re-visit them and reflect on the knowledge from within. Let's talk about these books for a moment:

"Guerilla Marketing - Secrets for Making Big Profits from Your Small Business" by Jay Conrad Levinson -1984. The Guerilla Marketing series is one of the best selling small business book series in the World, selling in excess of 5-million copies, and as a result you will find these books on the shelves of nearly all small business people's library. So, what can we say about this classic? This book chucks the conventional wisdom of sales and marketing and allows the small business person to understand how to get more for less, even if they choose to use Radio, Yellow Pages, TV Cable, Newspapers or Direct Mail. The book discusses flyers, newsletters, email, faxing, brochures, signage and gimmicks.

Not every small business person goes into a business with millions of dollars of capital, and getting going on a shoe-string or under-capitalization is considered the biggest reason for small business failure. So, you need to market without over spending and you need to be careful how you do it, this is why I always recommend Guerilla Marketing to new small businesses entrepreneurs and existing small businesses that are grinding it out.

"Running Your Own Business" by Howard H. Stern - 1986. This book has sold a million copies over a decades time from 1976 to 1986. Howard first asks his readers to do a personal assessment; How do you stack up as a manager? And then gets into particulars such as how does your product rate, how will you get the capital, how will you sell it, how will you control inventory, and how will you get vendors, bankers, employees, managers and consultants that you can trust?

He touches on the realities of government control, taxes, regulations and nuisance too. How will you grow the company in the future and how will you deal with crisis along the way? Will you take it public, franchise it or sell it and if you do, what will your exit strategy be? Howard makes you think, plan and gives you the tools to win in your small business.

Personally, I have read this book twice and many sections more than that, I also recommend this book for your business library as a personal reference so that you hit all the bases and think and plan ahead. Continued success in starting your own small business.
